Far from the Madding Crowd in L
inlithgow have been crowned Julia Independent Bookshop of the month for June.
This is for their huge commitment to children’s events and storytelling and for expanding their children’s space.
Owner Sally Pattle, tell us about it:
Being chosen as the Julia Donaldson Independent Bookshop of the Month for June is absolutely fantastic for all of us at Far From The Madding Crowd! The timing couldn’t be better - we’ve got some great events and activities planned. We’re kicking off with a Gruffalo picnic on 6th
June at Linlithgow Rugby Club, there’ll be some special guests including the Gruffalo himself, as well as music, stories, games and a special Gruffalo Nature Trail.
Later in the month, the Gruffalo’s Child will be taking part in the local fair, the Linlithgow Marches, as part of the procession. We’re also planning a party to kick off Independent Booksellers Week on 20th
June with lots of Julia Donaldson themed activities and games included, and throughout the month we will have special offers and competitions running.
We are so pleased to have been awarded this opportunity as Julia Donaldson is such an important figure in children’s literature today - she does so much to get kids interested in reading and stories. We’ve also been delighted at the excellent support given to us by the Pan MacMillan team and the positive feedback we’ve already got from customers. We are looking forward to making this month as special as we can to celebrate not only the work of Julia Donaldson, but also as a way of reaching out to more children and families in the area and get them engaged and enjoying stories as much as we do!
